Dennis Frehse was born in Hannover, Germany. He developed an early interest in music and began learning classical guitar at age seven. By age thirteen he was playing percussion in the High School Jazz band and by age fifteen he switched to drum set. This became his main instrument and he developed quickly. At age seventeen he started to play semi-professional with a variety of musicians around his hometown including a three month tenure at a theater playing Cole Porter's musical "Anything Goes".
His experience as a young music student gained Dennis a scholarship for Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. During his tenure at Berklee from 2001 to 2004, Dennis studied and performed with the top professors and performers at the college, including Joe Lovano, Hal Crook, Joe Hunt, Dave Samuels, Ed Tomassi, Casey Scheuerell and Mark Walker. He also got featured on a Master Class DVD by Joe Lovano with the title “Developing a Personal Approach” which has been released on Berklee-Press Label in 2003.
From these experiences Dennis developed the work ethic and professionalism to become a versatile and "in demand" drummer and educator. He performed at various venues in the USA, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Czech Republik, Switzerland and Japan. He had the honour of performing with Branford Marsalis, Mark Murphy, Hal Crook, Jesse Davis, Tony Lakatos, Dave Santoro, Fay Claassen, Olaf Polziehn, Michel Reis, Silvia Droste, Julian & Roman Wasserfuhr, Pascal Schumacher, Thomas Rückert and Martin Sasse besides others.
His educational experience includes various workshops and private instruction on drum set.
